Per the Clinical Treatment Act, as of le 1 janvier 2022, all state Medicaid programs are federally mandated to cover routine care (e.g., doctor visits, lab tests, imaging) for beneficiaries with life-threatening conditions who participate in clinical trials. The CLINICAL TREATMENT Act is the result of significant, sustained lobbying by 100+ patient advocacy groups and medical societies led by the American Society of Clinical Oncology.i Similar requirements for other major payers, including Medicare and employer-sponsored plans, have been in place for years.
